Im looking to join the ARMY band. What piece(s) should I play?

I play tuba and I am damn good I was told. I made 2nd chair in my region out of 10 chairs, but i have never really practiced minor scales that much. Can you give me the low down on minor scales? I know you flat 3 notes in the major scales but idk which ones. And as for the pieces I can select from these few to play:

I can help with minor scales, but not w/ the song choice.

A minor scale is a mode of a major scale. Modes are scales derived from playing the major scale starting on different degrees. Since there are different 7 notes in a scale there are 7 modes.

Modes:

Ionian: starting one the 1st note, this is also he same as a major scale
Dorian: start on 2nd note
Phrygian: 3rd
Lydian: 4th
Mixolydian : 5th
Aeolian: 6th, this is your minor scale
Locrian: 7th

examples of modes in C (what you alter, in comparison to its relative major scale, of the root note):

Ionian: CDEFGABC (nothing)
Dorian: DEFGABCD (b3,b7)
Phrygian: EFGABCDE (b2,b3,b6,b7)
Lydian: FGABCDEF (#4)
Mixolydian: GABCDEFG (b7)
Aeolian: ABCDEFGA (b3,b6,b7)
Locrian: BCDEFGAB (b2,b3,b5,b6,b7)

Remember the order of the flats:
Mixolydian (1 flat)
Dorian (2 flats)
Aeolian (3 flats)
Phrygian (4 flats)
Locrian (5 flats)

and Lydian is the only one when you sharp something, when compared to the major scale

So for example: D Dorian is DEFGABC
a D major scale is D E F# G A B C# D, so when you flat 3, and 7. Its a Dorian mode. The best way to play your modes is think of the relative major key signature and play through it.

Minor Scale/Aeolian Mode:

So if someone says “Play C#m (minor)” you can find the relative major (which tells the key signature) a few ways. You can find out of what scale is C# the 6th (E major), or you can count 3 half steps up which is E major (this is known as inversion. A major 6th, 9 half steps, inverts into a minor 3rd, 3 half steps. they are pretty much opposites).

What I do is sharp the note then go up a half step. So like F#, sharp it, (G), then go up a half step A. F#m has the key sign of A, which is 3 sharps
